LightRoll does not upload your photos or videos to LightRoll-controlled servers. Your photos stay on your device. The app stores local settings and capture-management metadata needed for Temp, cleanup, and app access. There are no accounts, ads, or cross-app tracking. LightRoll uses limited app-usage and purchase analytics to improve onboarding, reliability, and the overall app experience.
LightRoll requests access to your device's camera and photo library so it can take photos and save them to the albums you choose. Microphone access is used only when you record video with audio. Your photos and videos are not uploaded to LightRoll servers.
LightRoll collects limited analytics data, including app-usage events such as onboarding progress, purchase-flow interactions, purchase and restore outcomes, and purchase-status changes. These events are linked to a random per-install identifier, not your name, email address, Apple Account, or photo library.
LightRoll uses Mixpanel for app-usage analytics and RevenueCat for App Store purchase-status analytics. RevenueCat purchase-status data may be sent to Mixpanel so app-usage and purchase analytics can be understood together. These services do not receive your photos, videos, or photo library contents.
If you buy or start a trial in LightRoll, the transaction is handled by Apple through the App Store and StoreKit. LightRoll uses StoreKit entitlement status to confirm app access. We do not receive your payment card details or Apple Account credentials. RevenueCat helps LightRoll read and analyze App Store purchase status; RevenueCat does not process your payment.
When you delete expired Temp photos using LightRoll, the deletion happens locally through Apple's Photos framework. iOS will ask for your permission before any photos are removed. LightRoll never deletes photos without your explicit approval.
Your settings and capture-management metadata are stored locally on your device. This can include album choices, retention window, grid preference, capture category, expiry date, and local Photos identifiers needed to manage Temp cleanup. The random analytics identifier and analytics preference are stored locally and reset if you delete and reinstall LightRoll. Limited analytics data is sent to Mixpanel and RevenueCat as described above; no photos or videos are synced to LightRoll servers.
Analytics is on by default. You can turn it off at any time in LightRoll's Privacy & Data settings. In-app usage analytics stops immediately; purchase-status analytics stops the next time you open LightRoll.
LightRoll does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children under the age of 13.
